Yucca bacatta (berry), the Broadleaf Yucca, growing in the Western Foothills of the Sandia Mountains at 6,100 foot elevation, June 6, 2003. Distinctly broad, stout leaves. Yucca bacatta is widely distributed in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. It is sometimes an indicator of overgrazing. | |||||

Yucca brevifolia (short leaves), the Joshua Tree, growing at the Sonoran Desert Musem just west of Tucson, Arizona. Yucca brevifolia likes open desert. Elevation is 2,680 feet, date March 7, 2007. Plant height is 4 meters, spines narrow and short for a yucca, length 23 cm., width midway 9mm, trunk dia 20 cm. trunk plates about 50mm long and 24 mm wide. Joshua tree likes the lower elevations of the southwestern deserts. Observed growing just above St. George, Utah but absent at higher elevations near Cedar City, Utah. | |||||

Yucca glauca, Soapweed Yucca, is the midwestern narrow leafed yucca. Often grows on overgrazed grasslands. Narrowleaf yucca, Here growing in garden of the Gods, Colorado, elevation 6,500 Feet, May 30, 2007. Height 63 cm including flower stalk. spines 33 cm long, 9.5 mm. wide. Flowers 55 mm wide and 47 mm long with petals 54 mm. long. | |||||
